Living the IDS Mission: Noah Kelly Shares His Self-Advocacy Story

On January 27, Harrison Central SPED students heard from Noah Kelly, self-advocate and Office Assistant at the Institute for Disability Studies at The University of Southern Mississippi.

Noah shared his journey from high school into adulthood—earning his driver’s license, attending junior college, entering the workforce, and building independence along the way. He also spoke candidly about the challenges he faced and how learning to self-advocate and request accommodations became critical tools for his success.

At IDS, self-advocacy is more than a skill—it’s a core part of who we are and what we do. Noah’s story reflects our commitment to empowering individuals with disabilities to use their voices, advocate for their needs, and shape their own futures.

Noah is available to share his story with classes and groups by request.

In her current role, Amy serves as Executive Coordinator for Philanthropy and Development organizing fundraisers and events, contributing to the development of new programs and services, and touting all things IDS throughout the community. During her free time, Amy can be found gardening, cooking, list-making, and enjoying life with her family.
