IDS Self-Advocacy Coordinator Speaks on Conference Panel
On September 11, 2025, IDS self-advocacy coordinator Taylor Carley attended the 11th Annual Creating Your Own Path Conference hosted by Mississippi Statewide Autism Training Initiative in Madison. During the conference, Taylor served on the self-advocate panel.
The conference featured Rick Daynes, a dynamic voice for families navigating the world of special needs, as the keynote speaker. After hearing Rick’s uplifting message offering real-life strategies and mindset shifts to empower families and support professionals to thrive, conference attendees participated in several breakout sessions.
Breakout sessions at this year’s conference included training and discussions on understanding autism in the inclusive classroom, practical strategies for effective communication, sensory foundation, redirection that works, and more. The conference concluded with a “Transition for Persons with Autism Discussion Panel” where Taylor took the stage as a self-advocate to lead discussions on effective solutions for transition services. Taylor shared his own experience with transition services and key elements that contributed to his achievements.
IDS is proud to have Taylor as part of our work family, as his willingness to share his personal triumphs and tribulations while helping others strengthens our ability to enhance the quality of life for Mississippians with disabilities and their families.
