IDS Set to Launch EPIC Community Service Activities in Fall 2025

Logo for EPIC, which stands for Empowering Pathways to Independence in Communities.

Empowering Pathways to Independence in Communities (EPIC) is a community-based volunteer program launching its activities in fall 2025 that helps adults with disabilities ages 21-40 build skills for greater independence and employment success. Operated by the Institute for Disability Studies at The University of Southern Mississippi, EPIC connects trained student and community “volunteers” with individuals seeking to improve life skills such as budgeting, household management, self-advocacy, and job readiness.

Services are offered both in-person and online, providing flexibility and accessibility. As a benefit, the accepted volunteers receive a small stipend upon completing their service. EPIC’s mission is to help individuals with disabilities gain the confidence and tools they need to live more independently and participate fully in their communities.

IDS is grateful to Community Care Corps for the funding of this exciting new program to enhance the lives of Mississippians with disabilities and their families. For more information on volunteering with or receiving services through EPIC, contact Scott Mullins, Transition Coordinator, at 601-266-6129 or scott.mullins@usm.edu.

Prior to officially joining IDS staff in January 2025, Amy volunteered for over a decade with various IDS programs. In her current role, Amy serves as Executive Coordinator for Philanthropy and Development organizing fundraisers and events, contributing to the development of new programs and services, and touting all things IDS throughout the community. During her free time, Amy can be found gardening, cooking, list-making, and enjoying life with her family.
