STEP UP Members Enjoy 2025 Annual Retreat

On July 28, 2025, Hattiesburg and Gulf Coast STEP UP members came together on the Mississippi Gulf Coast for a fun-filled retreat! A total of 26 participants, including IDS staff, enjoyed a day of connection and adventure whilst exploring the Mississippi Aquarium, gaming at Big Play, and relaxing with shopping and a movie at Edgewater Mall.

Each year, STEP UP members enjoy an annual retreat whose location, timeframe, and activities are voted on in preceding months. Members have a variety of options for socialization throughout the year including an annual retreat, multiple monthly outings, Community Volunteer Club each Tuesday at IDS, weekly trivia and game nights, educational sessions, and so much more!

STEP UP to Leadership Advisory Council is composed of youth and young adults with and without disabilities. Council members serve as leaders within their schools, colleges/universities, and community. The Council focuses on issues facing all young people including leadership, self-advocacy, transition, health care, education, employment, and recreation. Members participate in weekly recreational events, special outings, community service events.

Prior to officially joining IDS staff in January 2025, Amy volunteered for over a decade with various IDS programs. In her current role, Amy serves as Executive Coordinator for Philanthropy and Development organizing fundraisers and events, contributing to the development of new programs and services, and touting all things IDS throughout the community. During her free time, Amy can be found gardening, cooking, list-making, and enjoying life with her family.
