{"id":437,"date":"2025-09-12T16:29:14","date_gmt":"2025-09-12T16:29:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/usmids.org\/news\/?p=437"},"modified":"2025-10-13T16:08:49","modified_gmt":"2025-10-13T16:08:49","slug":"epic-trainee-applications-now-open","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/usmids.org\/news\/2025\/09\/12\/epic-trainee-applications-now-open\/","title":{"rendered":"EPIC Trainee Applications Now Open"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"postie-post\">\n<p>EPIC is now accepting Trainee requests for FREE individualized training!<\/p>\n<p>EPIC Trainee applications are now OPEN for adults with disabilities (ages 18\u201340) who want in-person or virtual training tailored to their goals.<\/p>\n<p>EPIC (Empowering Pathways to Independence in Communities) helps trainees build skills for greater independence, confidence, and community participation. Trainees choose the training they want and when they want them\u2014no year-long commitment. After the requested training or series of sessions is complete, participation can end or be renewed with another request.<\/p>\n<p>Training options include (individual or small-group):<\/p>\n<p>* Employment skills (r\u00e9sum\u00e9s, applications, interview prep, workplace readiness)<br \/>\n* Interpersonal &amp; self-advocacy (communication, friendships, conflict resolution, speaking up, knowing your rights)<br \/>\n* Independent living (cooking, budgeting, shopping, transportation, safe appliance use)<br \/>\n* Leadership &amp; professional development (public speaking, teamwork, time management, technology)<br \/>\n* Socialization &amp; community involvement (clubs, outings, networking)<\/p>\n<p>How trainings happen:<\/p>\n<p>* Virtual via Zoom\/Google Meet or in-person based on need<br \/>\n* In-person locations can include the IDS office in Bond Hall (USM campus), a public community space (library, park, school), or at home when appropriate (especially for independent living skills using household appliances)<br \/>\n* Some topics may be offered as group classes (e.g., Driver\u2019s Education, Self-Advocacy, Getting College Ready, Adulting 101)<\/p>\n<p>Apply to request trainings:<br \/>\nusmforms.formstack.com\/forms\/epic_trainee_application<\/p>\n<p>For more information on EPIC, contact Scott Mullins, Transition Coordinator, at 601-266-6129 or <a href=\"mailto:scott.mullins@usm.edu\">scott.mullins@usm.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"entry-summary\">\nEPIC is now accepting Trainee requests for FREE individualized training!
