Founded by the late Frank R. Day of Jackson, Mississippi, the USM Luckyday program funds scholarships to Mississippi high school seniors who demonstrate leadership skills, are exemplary students, involved in their communities, and need financial assistance to pursue a higher education at The University of Southern Mississippi.<\/p>\n<p>All freshmen in the program participate in the Luckyday Citizenship Seminar, a service-learning class. The purpose of the Seminar is to prepare students to be engaged members of the Luckyday Program, campus community, and the greater Hattiesburg community by understanding their constitutive role in shaping culture. This course introduces the students to the Luckyday Program requirements, servant leadership experience through 10 hours of service, and how to be agents of change in their various communities.
